April 7, 2009 meeting minutes

Vice President Dave, KA9OZP opened the meeting by welcoming all. Dave
said he had attended the AES Superfest held in Milwaukee and he
purchased a Heil mic while there.

Dave began the around-room-introductions. KB9FIL, Glenn was
acknowledged as a new member and Mike, KB9YID for advancing to the
General class ticket two weeks ago.

Dave said Vice President Ken, KB9I was laid up with back problems.

Secretary’s Report – Kent, K9KMD club Secretary announced the March
minutes were published and emailed to club members. A motion was made
to accept the minutes by Jerry, N9AVY and seconded by Glenn, K9GLN.
Motion passed.

Treasures Report - Marty, W9MLP club treasurer provided a detailed
accounting of the past months income, expenses and balance. A motion
was made to accept the treasures report by Jerry, N9AVY and seconded
by Glenn, K9GLN. Motion passed.

Marty, W9MLP announced that his investigation of local libraries
having amateur radio literature proved to be successful. Most have
available information for those interested in learning more about ham
radio.

Rob, KA9RBI said he had been playing the space shuttle audio to students.

KB9I Repeater – The repeater still is experiencing interference.
Someone suggested we should check the aircraft band and see if they
were having interference from the suspected power utility as well.
This could force the FAA to get involved.

Jerry, N9AVY suggested placing the ARRL Illinois Section news on the
club K9RN reflector.

Rich, K9PK stated he renews his ARRL membership at sponsored events
where the ARRL is and receives a special gift. Marty, W9MLP said he
renews his at the Dayton hamvention.

Alan, W9HOG is interested in going to Dayton and asked for information
regarding available hotels. Both Jerry. N9AVY and Marty, W9MLP said
that they stay at Richmond, IN. It offers a reasonable price and is
not to far away from the fest. Of those at the meeting, a show of
hands indicated five in attendance were going to Dayton.

How’s DX – Dave, KA9OCP said he worked DX on 40 last night. Jerry,
N9AVY indicated 80 was hot. Kent, K9KMD had worked many from Poland
during a Polish contest on both 40 and 80 over the weekend. Someone
said that we would be surprised at the DX on 17 meters.

Loren, K3RFC said each year ARRL QST has an “April fool” in the
publication. He couldn’t find it this year.

Kent, K9KMD stated he had visited and operated ARRL headquarters W1AW
during the last month and offered doing a future club program on W1AW
and V01AA.

Old Business – None

Loren, K3RFC asked if anyone was following the proposed ”SST” Self
Supporting Tower being considered for construction in Crystal Lake
near the Mc Henry County College. If approved and constructed, it
will be the worlds tallest SST at 1500 feet – taller than the Empire
State Building in NY City and equal to Chicago’s John Hancock Center.

Jack, W9MU suggested we should find a way to rotate who will bring in
the cookies and other stuff for each meeting. Jack has
self-proclaimed that responsibility but will be spending the summer
months up north. Jerry, N9AVY suggested every member take a turn and
have a sign-up list. Loren, K3RFC jumped in and volunteered to supply
next months meeting.

Mary, W9MLP presented the evenings very informative program on “Ham
radio and dB’s”

16 attendees signed the roster, 15 members and one visitor.
